Sutter Creek News: School Consolidation Proposal Would Relocate Classrooms to Amador High Campus

SUTTER CREEK NEWS | ORIGINAL LOCAL NEWS · OCTOBER 2026

The Amador County Unified School District released an environmental review in August 2026 for a school consolidation program that would affect Sutter Creek high-school campuses as well as facilities in Jackson and Ione. The plan would consolidate six schools onto five campuses, with changes to school boundaries and teaching space.

Details of the public record

At Amador High School in Sutter Creek, the district proposes relocating two portable classrooms from Jackson Junior High. The structures would add nearly 2,000 square feet of learning space, with utility and minor surface improvements for the new pads and circulation. The proposal also identifies Independence High School among affected campuses, and the eventual organization of programs requires the district’s formal decisions.

What this means for local people

Consolidation can change where students travel and how staff and facilities are used. A state environmental filing does not itself determine the school assignment of every student today, nor does it establish that the portable classrooms have already moved. The district anticipates site improvements at Amador High beginning in spring 2027, subject to approvals and schedules.

Next steps to watch

Sutter Creek News will track board votes, campus construction, revised enrollment boundaries, student transportation and public feedback. Families should use adopted district calendars and notices rather than draft proposal assumptions.
